SBW Capacity Selector and Buying Guide

Three Phase Voltage Stabilizer

SBW Capacity Selector and Buying Guide

The SBW series is a compensated three phase voltage stabilizer built for plants that cannot afford a sagging line: six capacities from 150KVA to 500KVA hold the output at AC 380V±2% while the input swings as wide as AC 380V±15%, at ≥98% efficiency. Work through the four sizing steps, find your load in the capacity table, then request a price for the high power voltage regulator your project actually needs.

Size the Unit in Four Steps

Every SBW frame from 150KVA to 500KVA shares the same regulation, cooling and protection package. What changes is capacity — so the only real question is how much load you are putting behind it. Answer these four questions in order and you will arrive at a number you can quote.

1

Total your running load

Add up the kVA of every machine, line and lighting circuit the stabilizer will feed on a normal production day.

Output: one load figure for the site
2

Add start-up headroom

Motors, compressors and transformers pull more at start-up than they draw at run. Build that peak into the figure, then move one capacity step up.

Output: a target capacity
3

Check your grid swing

Log the worst input deviation your site sees. If it stays inside ±15% of 380V, this series covers it by design.

Output: a confirmed input fit
4

Confirm output tolerance

Compare the tolerance your downstream equipment states with the ±2% output the unit holds at its rated point.

Output: a specification to quote

Capacity Selection Matrix

Six capacities, one electrical platform. Pick the step that sits above your calculated load — and if the number falls between two steps, the larger frame is the safer order.

Common to every capacity in the series: AC 380V±15% input, AC 380V±2% output, ±1%–5% voltage stabilization accuracy, ≥98% efficiency, dry air cooling, IP20 enclosure and automatic/manual switching.

What 380V ±15% In and ±2% Out Really Means

The two percentages on the nameplate describe the whole job. The input figure is what the unit will tolerate from the grid; the output figure is what your equipment actually receives.

Grid input≈323V – 437V
−15%380V nominal+15%
Load receives≈372V – 388V
−2%380V nominal+2%
Why the ±2% output is the figure that sells the unit Downstream equipment is specified against a voltage, not against a range. Holding the output inside a narrow band keeps contactors, drives and instrumentation working at their design point instead of drifting with the grid.
Why ±15% is the practical input ceiling here A compensation-type regulator corrects a deviation by adding or subtracting a compensating voltage. Once the deviation runs past the stated window, the right answer is a different regulation approach rather than a larger frame.
At the edge of the window Over/under-voltage alarms are part of the protection package, and automatic/manual switching lets an operator take control when the site supply behaves unusually. Log your worst excursion before ordering so the frame you buy is the one that fits.

Specifications That Decide the Order

These are the numbers a procurement engineer signs off on. Everything below applies across the 150–500KVA range — only the capacity changes from one frame to the next.

Protection, Control and Serviceability

A stabilizer is a long-term installation, so the parts that matter after commissioning are the ones nobody advertises: how it cools, how it fails safe, and how quickly a technician can get inside it.

Overload, short circuit and voltage alarms Three protection layers watch the load and the supply, so a fault trips the unit rather than the machinery behind it.
Automatic/manual switching Regulation runs automatically when the input fluctuates or the load changes; manual control stays available for maintenance and testing.
Per-phase compensation The compensated regulation system operates independently across phases, which suits unbalanced plant loads better than a single shared correction.
Dry air cooling, silent running No liquid circuit to maintain, and quiet enough for an electrical room next to a production floor.
Modular build and IP20 enclosure Modules can be reached for installation and maintenance, and the IP20 enclosure keeps the unit indoors where dry, ventilated conditions can be planned.

Match the Site to the Specification

Three arrival states, three different decisions. Read the one that matches your installation before you fix a capacity.

Production lines and metal-processing equipment

The series reaches 500KVA and regulates automatically whenever input voltage fluctuates or the load changes.

Your decision: total the running kVA of the line, add start-up headroom for the motors on it, and order the next capacity step up rather than the closest one.

Elevators, air conditioning and building lighting

≥98% efficiency and long-term continuous operation, with dry air cooling and an IP20 enclosure.

Your decision: these loads run for years, so efficiency is a running cost — and the unit needs a dry, ventilated indoor room rather than a corridor corner.

Medical, research and telecom facilities

Output is held at AC 380V±2% with no waveform distortion stated for the series, and over/under-voltage alarms watch the supply.

Your decision: check the tolerance your instruments actually specify, confirm it against the ±2% output window, then size the frame to the full facility load.

Request a Quote for Your Capacity

SBW units are configured against the project, so the product page shows $0.00 as a placeholder rather than a shelf price. Tell us the load you calculated in step one and we will confirm the capacity, the build and the delivery schedule.

  • Which capacity you are considering — 150, 200, 250, 300, 400 or 500KVA
  • Total connected load in kVA and your worst-case input deviation
  • The output tolerance your downstream equipment requires
  • Site location, installation date and any quantity needed for a multi-site rollout
